Center for Inflammatory Bowel Disease-About the Center

Mission Statement
The Wisconsin Center for Inflammatory Bowel Disease exists to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals living with inflammatory bowel disease. We are committed to providing high-quality, easily-accessible services by a team of dedicated professionals who give comprehensive attention to all aspects of this disease.

Patient-Centered Care
Leaders in the field of gastroenterology from Madison Medical Affiliates in Milwaukee have come together to form the Wisconsin Center for Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Our Center is staffed by highly trained individuals with years of experience.

Diagnosing inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is complex because the symptoms vary for each individual and can be similar to other diseases. Unfortunately, there isn't just one test that can accurately diagnose IBD. An initial consultation at the Center will involve gathering information from multiple sources starting with a medical history and conducting a physical examination. A combination of exams, lab tests and minor procedures are common such as the following:

  • Blood tests
To determine whether an anemic condition exists, or if the white blood cell count is elevated (a sign of inflammation).
  • Stool sample
To check for bleeding or infection.
  • Colonoscopy
A test that uses a long, flexible tube with a light and camera lens at the end to examine the large intestine.
  • Radiologic studies
Various computer-aided X-ray techniques including ultrasound, CT Scan, MRI and PET Scan.

Saturday Colonoscopies Now Available
Getting your colonoscopy is no longer an inconvenience. If you’ve been holding out scheduling your colonoscopy appointment because you can’t miss work or are just to busy during the week, Columbia St. Mary’s, in conjunction with Madison Medical Affiliates, has the answer. We now offer Saturday appointments at River Woods Outpatient Center in Glendale.

A colonoscopy is the best diagnostic test available to detect colon cancer, a condition that is highly curable when caught early. Screenings should begin at age 50, earlier if there is a family history of colon cancer. Ask your physician to refer you to a Madison Medical gastroenterologist for your colonoscopy at River Woods Outpatient Center.

A physician's referral is required for a colonoscopy. For an appointment to meet with one of our gastroenterologists, call (414) 272-8950.
