Certified Primary Stroke Centers

Our Certified Primary Stroke Centers Provide Immediate Care

Stroke is serious. It happens fast. And because of how stroke impacts a person's health, it is essential that people get help right away.

Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital Milwaukee and Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee both have received Primary Stroke Center Certification from the Joint Commission – a regulating organization dedicated to improving healthcare safety and quality of care. That means we have in place the staff and protocols to recognize stroke patients when they enter our emergency department and provide a fast response for treating stroke.

As a Primary Stroke Center, Columbia St. Mary’s follows national standards and guidelines that can significantly improve outcomes for our stroke patients. Our nursing staff is trained to quickly assess patients for symptoms of stroke so that they see a physician within minutes of arriving. Diagnostic tests and a consultation with a neurologist are complete within 45 minutes.
