Pediatric Therapy Programs

Helping a Child LearnA picture of a mother with her toddler.

That’s what all parents expect to do during the early years of childhood. Teaching children to walk, talk, dress and act independently. But when illness, injury or disability affects a child’s ability in everyday life, you need the expert help, guidance and support from our professional staff at Columbia St. Mary’s.

Our trained pediatric rehabilitation staff offers years of trusted experience. Whatever the underlying cause, our goal is to help you and your child.

What We Offer

We treat children with a wide variety of pediatric issues that affect growth and development. This may include developmental delays, neuromuscular disorders, learning disabilities and/or behavioral problems.

Each child we serve has a designated rehabilitation team assigned to his or her care. This team includes professionals who are specialized and experienced in pediatric rehabilitation and may consist of a Speech Language Pathologist, Physical Therapist and Occupational Therapist. These specialists are sensitive to the unique needs of children and use therapeutic techniques and play that keep your child’s interest and focus.

In addition to traditional therapy services, we also offer:

  • Group handwriting classes for printing and cursive

  • Speech and language small group instruction

  • Individual summer therapy services (physical, occupational, speech)

  • Specialized occupational therapy to address sensory processing disorders

  • Therapeutic listening

You Play a Key Role

The rehabilitation process is challenging. It can be long and sometimes stressful for both you and your child. During rehabilitation it is important to celebrate your child’s successes—no matter how small.

occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, and/or early childhood education. Our staff is licensed by the State of Wisconsin. We

regularly participate in continuing education which enables us to provide state-of-the-art early intervention. Service coordination is also provided.

Guidance into your child’s early intervention is started by your service coordinator. Building a trusting relationship with you and your family enables you to step into being the most important member of your child’s team. Within this atmosphere, your child’s Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) is developed. The IFSP outlines your child’s current and future growth and development.

Wisconsin Birth-to-Three guidelines mandate that services for children be provided in natural environments (such as home, daycare, play group, etc.) where your child lives and plays. Planning together as a team, the decision is made as to where and how your child’s goals can best be accomplished. Parent and family participation, collaboration with community resources and coaching are essential for your child’s progress.
