Men's Health Services

In this Section

Here’s the cold, hard truth: Men are living almost five years shorter than women. Why is that? Well, part of the reason is the simple fact that men are less likely than women to visit their doctor on a regular basis.

Routine exams and screenings (tests that look for diseases before any symptoms present themselves) are important in identifying problems early, before they get out of control. This is why preventive healthcare is so important in all stages of a man’s life.

Recommended Exams and Screenings by Age

All Ages
You should visit your primary care physician every two years, even if you don’t feel sick or have any chronic conditions. Here’s what typically happens during a physical exam:

  • A discussion on your health history, current medications, diet and exercise.
  • An examination of the muscular system, skeletal system, skin, heart and lungs.
  • A genital examination and possible hernia check.
  • Body mass index (BMI) based on your height and weight.
  • Blood pressure screening.

If you don’t have a primary care physician or you’d like to make the switch to Columbia St. Mary’s, we can help. Just click here or give us a call at 414-332-DOCS.
