To: CSM Foundation Valued Friends
I am delighted to share this remarkable news with you, our donor and valued friend. Thanks to you, Columbia St. Mary’s Foundation has exceeded its Beyond Medicine campaign fundraising goal, raising more than $42 million to support Columbia St. Mary’s Health System and its state-of-the-industry treatments and technologies, programs and enhancements that create an exceptional patient experience and community benefit programs.
Your support of the Beyond Medicine campaign helped improve the patient experience by funding improvements to the medical and radiation oncology areas at the Ozaukee campus such as private waiting areas, heated treatment chairs and calming artwork; SkyCeilings™, photographic illusions of real skies embedded in ceiling tiles to provide relaxing focal points to patients undergoing treatments; healing gardens; and animal-assisted therapy, among others.
Rooted in its mission, Columbia St. Mary’s continues in its commitment to provide free health care to those who are most vulnerable. The move and expansion of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Dental Clinic, the “Dental Emergency Rooms for the Poor,” was a critical project funded by Beyond Medicine. Additionally, donor funded programs like the Community-based Chronic Disease Management Clinic, St. Ben’s Clinic for the Homeless, the Huiras Family Ozaukee Community Health Clinic, and our Healthy Births Initiatives provide education, primary and specialty care at little or no cost to uninsured and under-insured individuals in our community. All this is only possible because of donors like you.
“I couldn’t be more pleased to start my new role here and immediately find such a welcoming and supportive community, evidenced by the great generosity of our donors,” said Mark Taylor, FACHE, who was named president and chief executive officer of Columbia St. Mary’s Health System in February. “Their support is inspiring to me as I assume the responsibility to steward Columbia St. Mary’s rich history of service. It’s clear our donors represent a tradition of philanthropy at Columbia St. Mary’s which reaches back to our founding. I’m proud to be entrusted with this legacy and I promise to carry it forward.”
Private funding for hospitals has always been important – most hospitals were originally built with private, often faith-based donations – and it’s more critical now than ever. Your support helps us realize our mission and provide care with a special concern for those who are vulnerable.
I am indebted to the Beyond Medicine honorary co-chairs Polly H. and William D. Van Dyke, III; and co-chairs Daniel F. McKeithan, Jr., Randall M. Perry and Jane Schroeder for their extraordinary dedication of time, talent and treasure. And my deepest gratitude goes to you, and the more than 15,000 donors who helped the Beyond Medicine Campaign meet and exceed its goal. You saw the need and rose to the occasion.
