Support Services

Cancer treatment goes beyond chemotherapy and radiation. That's why Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s offers a full range of patient services as part of our full continuum of cancer care.

Sometimes, patients have problems paying medical bills, a result from needing to take time off of work for treatment. Other patients may have difficulty obtaining health insurance (though insurance companies are no longer able to deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions) or obtaining life insurance. At Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s, we offer numerous financial support services to help patients navigate these issues. Contact our Financial Counselor at 414-298-7250.

Nurse Navigators
A Ascension Columbia St. Mary's Nurse Navigator is a confidante who helps navigate and assist you through your cancer journey. For more information, contact a Nurse Navigator at one of our Cancer Center locations below.

  • Milwaukee: 414-298-7245

  • Ozaukee: 262-243-8255

Nutrition Counseling
Nutrition is an important, often overlooked factor of cancer treatment and recovery. Cancer medications can cause nausea and reduced appetite, so we have an Oncology Dietitian on hand to help evaluate and manage nutrition-related effects of cancer treatment. For more information about nutrition, contact our Oncology Dietitian at 414-291-1526.

For your convenience, a full-service pharmacy is available at Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s to prepare your chemotherapy, biotherapy and other treatments. They also advise your healthcare team on the selection and effects of your medication.  Phone: 414-585-1303

Pet Companionship
An occupational therapist certified in animal assisted activities provides animal visitation to promote physical, social and emotional functioning. Click here to learn more.

Psycho-Oncology services at Ascension Columbia St. Mary's focus on helping patients and their families cope with the emotional and social impacts associated with the stress of cancer diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Lyndsey Wallace, Clinical Health Psychologist, takes a mind-body approach to therapy with the goal of improving a patient's quality of life by promoting physical and emotional health. Dr. Wallace's treatment focuses on emotional distress associated with diagnosis, treatment, recovery and the adjustment into survivorship. Interventions focus on incorporating healthy coping strategies to deal with fear, anxiety and depression of the course of one's journey. For more information or to make an appointment, contact Dr. Lyndsey Wallace at 414-585-1518.

Rehabilitation Services
A cancer rehabilitation team works with patients to manage lymphedema, fatigue, swallowing difficulties and other limitations associated with treatment.

Social Services
Our Oncology Social Worker assists patients/families with power of attorney for healthcare needs, insurance-related questions, identifying community resources, transportation to treatment and arranges home and hospice care. Contact our Oncology Social Worker at 414-291-1527.

We all desire the best for those we care about when they experience a terminal illness. Hospice is a special way of caring for people with life-limiting illnesses and offering support to their families. One of the goals of our Hospice is to help fill our patient's days with comfort, compassion and dignity at a time when it matters most. Through hospice, our patients' families are directly involved in making decisions and in caring for the person they love. We provide compassionate care and pain management as well as offer support for family members and friends.

Spiritual Care

Cancer survivors often suffer from a variety of psychological stresses: depression, anxiety and fear of reoccurrence. To help alleviate those issues, we have a spiritual care service team which includes a staff psychiatrist.

At Ascension Columbia St. Mary's, a hospital chaplain is available 24 hours a day. If you are in need of a chaplain, please ask your nurse to contact Spiritual Care.
