Seeking a Second Opinion

Choosing a cancer care team is one of the most important decisions a patient will make. A breast cancer diagnosis is a scary, stressful situation and women understandably want to start treatment as soon as possible.

But, it’s important to pick a team you trust and a feel comfortable with – a team like Cheryl Halverson’s, which she says “didn't just treat me medically, but supported me from an emotional standpoint as well.”

Sometimes, this means seeking a second opinion.

When a patient seeks a second opinion at Columbia St. Mary’s, she will receive the same expert, multidisciplinary care as our primary patients. In no more than one week, oftentimes sooner, we can get a patient in for a second opinion (sometimes even before she can get her first opinion elsewhere).

The Breast Cancer Second Opinion Clinic offers:

  • Physical examination by a breast cancer specialist.

  • Extensive case review by a multi-specialty team of research and treatment specialists who will utilize the most advanced tools and trusted technologies to assess and confirm the breast cancer diagnosis.

  • A single appointment with her entire cancer care team including a medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, surgeon, nurse navigator.

  • Final recommendation shared with the patient and her primary care doctor.

To make an appointment for a second opinion or to speak with an expert directly, please call one of our Nurse Navigators at 414-298-7245.
