Tuesday, November 25, 2003

Columbia St. Mary’s has been selected as one of the “best places to work for women,” as reported in the November issue of Milwaukee Magazine. Of Columbia St. Mary’s more than 5,500 employees, 83.5 percent are women.

For the third straight year, Milwaukee Magazine partnered with MRA–The Management Association to determine the best places to work in the greater Milwaukee area. This year, the magazine conducted two separate surveys:

  • The best places to work (large and medium-sized companies)
  • The best places to work for women

Columbia St. Mary’s was one of 105 companies participating in the survey, and one of the 11 companies selected as finalists in the “best places to work for women” survey.
According to the magazine, “women-friendly” workplaces are “family-friendly” workplaces that make it easier to combine work schedules with home life. Other survey measures included:

  • How well women are represented in the upper ranks of management and executive leadership
  • How much employers contribute to charitable operations that would be viewed as being of special interest and benefit to women
  • An equal chance for women to rise in the organization

In the article, Leo Brideau, Columbia St. Mary’s president and CEO, states: “The concrete objective has been for Columbia St. Mary’s to be a great place to work. What you can’t do if you’re going to succeed and become a great workplace is ignore the fact that people have lives outside of work.”
