Milwaukee, Wis, May 21, 2002 . . . Following up on the announcement that Columbia St. Mary’s made last fall, the Columbia St. Mary’s Board of Directors has unanimously approved the planning of a new hospital on the current site of St. Mary’s Hospital Milwaukee. The new, state of the art hospital will replace Columbia Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital Milwaukee.
Now that the location has been determined, hospital officials will move forward with detailed program planning, refinement of the financial feasibility study and seeking necessary approvals. Once approved, the time period to further plan and build the new hospital would be four to five years.

Further study is underway regarding the health care services that would be located at the Columbia Hospital site once the new hospital is opened. Significant investments will continue in the two East Side hospitals to ensure state-of-the-art care continues for patients and their families.
